I’ve been working on a baby blanket for my new niece. It will be a nice sized blanket that I hope she’ll be able to use for some time as she grows up. I’m hoping it will be something she will cherish as she grows older and maybe even one day give to her daughter.
My sister picked out the colours, she specifically chose autumn colours and I was able to find exactly what she wanted in a gorgeous autumn mix acrylic yarn. Although it isn’t 100% wool, it is fully machine washable so it should be perfect for spills and baby accidents that may happen all over it.
Using a specific sequence of double crochet stitches it creates a woven effect, giving it the name “basket weave stitch”. The stitches overlap and also help to make the material thick and plushier, making it as warm and soft as 100% wool. It’s a really lovely design and as soon as I saw the pattern I knew I wanted to make it.
I’m only about two-thirds of the way through the middle part of design, and am hoping to finish that soon. I will then start the edging in a yummy buttery yellow that will complement the deeper autumn colours. Can’t wait to see how it turns out, and can’t wait to see the little miss cutie snuggled up in it.
